There are two ways (easier ways) of how to install Skype on Ubuntu 14.10, 14.04, 13.10, 13.04, 12.04:
- Download and install (Ubuntu Software Center) version from the official Ubuntu software repositories
- Download and install version from the official Skype website
Either of these two methods use, be sure to include in the Ubuntu Software Center software repository called:
- Canonical partners
Installation via the Software Center and official repositories
Installation via the Software Center is perhaps the safest. This way allows Ubuntu to pull all the dependencies for the good work of Skype. To install Skype on Ubuntu through the Software Center Ubuntu first do the following:
- Enable software repository Canonical partners. Open Software Center and go to: Edit ? Software Sources ? Other Software and check Canonical Parners.
- Wait for the software to refresh and load all the packages in the new repository.
- Enter skype in the search field. Important notice: If you’re looking for Skype in a software center before you turn on the software repository Canonical partners, you will not find it.
- When it appears in the search results indicate Skype installation and install it like any other program.
Installing the version from the official Skype website
And for this type of installation you need to include a software repository Canonical partners but first download the installation package from the official Skype website:
- Go to: http://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-computer/
- Select the latest available version for Ubuntu and download to computer. Version of Skype after 12.04 use multiarch, so it is not necessary to look for 32 bit or 64 bit version.
- Enable software repository Canonical partners. Open Software Center and go to: Edit ? Software Sources ? Other Software and check Canonical Parners.
- Wait for the software to refresh and load all the packages in the new repository.
- Go to the downloaded package and start the installation with double click on the package. This action opens the Ubuntu Software Center and install a package like any other program.
